Hopefully this weekend...

Greetings
Sorry for not updating sooner but life has been CRAZY!!!! Lets get right to it...
Nathan:  He has been home almost two weeks... I can't believe it!  He is becoming quite the little bottler taking between 2 and 3 ounces with each feeding.  Thank you to the SCN nurses for getting him on an every three hour schedule... he has continued on this routine which is great... daddy and I are taking turns getting up with him thereby allowing the other parent to get at least a little sleep. He is also an expert carseat sitter as he spends every day traveling to the hospital with me to visit his brother Ben!  The one kink was last night when our otherwise content baby screamed from 9pm until 2am and refused to eat (very unlike him)... I noticed that he had developed a inguinal hernia (a loop of bowel moved from the lower abdomen through a tunnel in the groin and into the scrotum) causing him to be unable to stool and pass gas = a very unhappy baby... so after a phone call to NICU (thanks for the help Janell)  we landed in the ER at mpls Childrens.  The ER doctor was able to reduce the hernia and then the little man passed a whole lot of gas and then finally ate two ounces of milk and was once again a happy baby!!!  Good news... he is ok!!!  Bad news... both him and Ben will need to have the Hernias surgically repaired:(

Benjamin:  Continues to grow, grow, grow and is now 4 pounds 14 ounces and may hit 5 pounds tonight!!!!  Ben passed his carseat evaluation on Monday and has been bottling like a champ and was able to have his feeding tube taken out. He is still requiring a small amount of oxygen so he will be coming home on a nasal cannula and oxygen and will have an apnea monitor too.  Grandma Nancy, daddy and I all went through CPR, oxygen and monitor training this afternoon.  With any luck at all Ben will be home this weekend!!!!!

For those of you anxiously awaiting our mini van decision... we will be the proud owners of a 2010 Honda Odyssey as of Saturday!!!  Under crazy circumstances our best price came from a dealership in Bemidji so in Brent's spare time he will be making the four hour journey to Bemidji to pick up our "polished metal," Leather seated new car ... I can't believe we are going to be driving a  minivan (a very pimped out van) but a mini van non the less, and then a four hour drive home... just in time to bring Ben home!!!

I will work on getting new photos up this weekend... they are getting so big and so cute (if I do say so myself).  Thank you to those of you who continue to check in on us it helps knowing that we have so many people out there supporting us.  A special thank you to my mom, dad and brothers for there unbelievable amount of help and support... we could not do this without you!!!!
Love always,
The Utech's

  1. I checked every day 'tho I realized you had a crazy schedule with one baby home and one in the hospital. Glad to know Benjamin is coming home. Hopefully your schedule will settle into a routine.

  2. Yay for Ben coming home!!!! So exciting! And many of us drove mini vans for many years while we carted all of you guys around - they're actually very flexible vehicles.

  3. Exciting news about Ben! We never thought we'd drive mini vans either! Once you have it you will LOVE it! Especially the automatic doors when carrying a heavy carseat (Or two of them!).
